ASLEEP (Anaesthesia South London Education & Examination Programme) was set up in 2011 by trainees for trainees, to help provide free-of-charge FRCA examination practice to trainees in SESA. The aims of ASLEEP are to minimise the need for trainees to:

  • Travel long distances to obtain examination practice
  • Spend precious study budget / own money to obtain this support

As ASLEEP activities are free of charge, sustainability is achieved by asking all candidates to act as examiners once they have passed the different components of the examination. We therefore have a mixture of consultant and registrars who help act as examiners for the different sessions. Our core faculty members are:

  • Dr Sebastian Baxter (Consultant Lead and Lead for Final FRCA Writers’ Club)
  • Dr Ade Ayeni (Lead for Primary FRCA vivas)
  • Dr Paul Balfour (Lead for Final FRCA vivas)

ASLEEP currently offers the following services to all SESA trainees:

  • Primary FRCA viva practice sessions (held from 18:00 - 20:00 hrs via MSTeams, twice weekly, for 3 to 4 weeks leading up to the exam)
  • Final FRCA viva practice sessions (also held from 18:00 - 20:00 hrs via MSTeams, twice weekly, for 3 to 4 weeks leading up to the exam)
  • Final FRCA Writers’ Club (CRQ papers sent out every week for 6 weeks before the written exam; candidates hand-write their answers and send them back to the examiner for marking and feedback)

To sign up to any of the above sessions (as a candidate or examiner), please look out for regular deanery emails for more information and / or contact us at:
